💡 We supported the community’s response to COVID-19.
Developed, translated, and shared critical health and safety messages in the Bow Valley’s top languages, by working with settlement providers, the health sector, employers, churches, municipalities, and more
Helped connect many organizations to meet urgent community needs, including providing culturally appropriate foods
Sourced computers for English language students to continue learning online
Provided supported computer access for locals applying for income support
Helped local businesses to navigate layoffs and recalls, considering the additional needs of foreign-born workers
📣 We amplified the voices of local immigrants and newcomers.
Celebrated BVIP’s Immigrant Advisory Group, Town of Canmore Volunteer Award of Excellence nominees, who were critical in identifying and responding to emerging immigrant and newcomer needs during COVID-19
Published the Bow Valley 2019 Integration Assessment, which highlighted immigrant and newcomer barriers and informed many local initiatives
Connected thousands of residents through #BowValleyLocals social media and story-telling campaign celebrating diversity, challenging stereotypes, and breaking down barriers
📝 We adapted services to meet all locals needs.
Secured over $200,000 in funding for critical support for pre-beginner and remote English language learners and new supports to help make newcomers’ first jobs in the Bow Valley a first step towards success in Canada
Trained dozens of leaders in communicating effectively using Plain Language
Made on-demand interpretation available at Town of Banff’s help desk
Adapted settlement workshops and information for francophone newcomers
Launched Nature for Newcomers and Bear Spray Safety
Launched a new language and life skills class designed specifically for foreign-born youth
