Canmore Chess Club (www.chessempire.ca) is a grassroots organization aiming to promote chess in Banff, Canmore, Mînî Thnî, and across Canada. We are promoting a chess community with a culture based on friendliness over competitiveness. We value kindness, inclusivity, and sportsmanship. All ages and all skill levels are welcome (so far, our youngest chess player is 4 years old and our oldest is 79).

Stop by any time and we have chess sets. You may arrive late or early. Of course, if you prefer, you may bring your own set too but we have chess sets to lend during the event.

Chess is a sport celebrated for more than a millennium for its unique abilities to bring communities together and help personal wellness.

Did you know that grandmasters can lose up to 10lbs just by sitting down in front of a chess game during a tournament? The brain needs those calories to help the neurotransmitters to fire up, especially when it is up front of a chess game.

A message from Canmore Chess Club:

Thank you Town of Canmore and Canmore Public Library for helping us find this venue. Thank you to Save-on-Foods and Starbucks for providing us food and drinks. Thank you Bow Valley Food Alliance for helping us connect and build relationships with the community. Thank you to the Alberta Chess Association for sponsoring us with chess sets. Thank you to all community members for keeping us alive.
