Gender Neutral Facility

Make at least one type of staff facility gender neutral.

⚠️ Instructions To Complete This Commitment:

Commitment:

Offer gender neutral facilities to staff, including washrooms, change rooms, locker rooms. A minimum of one gender neutral facility must be available at each work site during each regular workday.

  • To complete this commitment, ensure that a minimum of one gender neutral facility is available during each regular workday at each participating work site you wish to be recognized as a 2025 Workplace Inclusion Champion.

    • For example, if your organization manages multiple hotel properties, each property must have at least one gender neutral facility.

  • For the purposes of this commitment, gender neutral facilities can include permanent washrooms, change rooms, or locker rooms.

  • Please see the Washroom Signage Guidelines in Resources for examples of preferred, acceptable, and unacceptable washroom signage options.

Submit Evidence When You have Completed This Commitment

  • Evidence required:

    1. Photos of your gender neutral facility (signage of the door)

    2. Description or document including the following:

      1. Describe how employees would access the facility during a regular work day (is your facility centrally located? Is it easy to find?)

      2. Explain how you communicate the availability of an inclusive facility to employees

      3. How have you made your employees aware of the inclusive facility?

  • Once you have completed each of the above requirements, upload your evidence using our online form as soon as possible. This allows time for review and feedback.

  • Evidence may be in the form photographs of your gender-neutral facility signage. Please provide evidence that it is accessible to all employees during their regular workday (for example, maps showing location of facility, etc.)

  • Deadline to submit all evidence for the 2025 WIC: 3PM, Monday, December 1st, 2025.

Everyone deserves equal access to public facilities and spaces such as washrooms, change rooms, and locker rooms.

Providing gender neutral spaces to staff and public provides a safe space where people can use facilities without fear of violence or harassment.

Intended Outcomes:

  1. Increased safety and comfort for all
    Gender neutral facilities help reduce the risk of harassment and create a safer environment for staff and visitors.

  2. Greater inclusion of gender-diverse individuals
    Providing accessible, non-gendered spaces affirms the rights and dignity of people of all gender identities and expressions.

  3. Improved workplace culture
    Offering gender neutral options shows a commitment to fairness, respect, and belonging for everyone who uses the space.
