How do we decide the commitments each year?

  1. We listen to the experiences of employees to understand what would make more inclusive local workplaces.

  2. We convene a group of subject matter experts, industry associations, and supporting agencies to create a shortlist of commitments that would create meaningful impact for local employees.

  3. We work together with local employers to decide on a final list of commitments to meet the following criteria:

Adaptable: Employers of any size and industry can complete the commitment

Feasible: Employers can complete the commitment within available time, capacity, and resources.

Impactful: The commitment will make a meaningful difference for workplaces and the local workforce, based on local insights and subject matter expertise.

Supported: Employers have access to practical resources and support from a Supporting Agency to help with implementation and problem-solving.

This unique co-creation process keeps the Charter local and practical, leading to real impact for Bow Valley employers, employees, and the whole community.

What do we mean by an ‘inclusive workplace’?

We define an inclusive workplace as one where all employees are welcomed, respected, valued, and supported to participate, contribute, and succeed.

Through welcoming recruitment and onboarding, everyday inclusive workplace practices, and shared leadership, learning, and accountability, employers take meaningful action to remove barriers, strengthen belonging for all, and create workplaces systems so employees of all backgrounds can thrive.

The Workplace Inclusion Charter is not intended to completely transform organizations.

The commitments support employers who are interested in inclusion to take practical and meaningful steps within a set timeframe to create more inclusive local workplaces.
