⚠️ Instructions To Complete This Commitment:
Commitment:
Review washroom facilities and take at least one practical action to improve gender-inclusive access, signage, privacy, wayfinding, or staff communication.
Please complete all of the below requirements.
1. Review current washroom access
Identify the washrooms available to employees and consider how they are designated, signed, located, and communicated to staff. Include public or shared facilities where these are the primary washrooms available to employees.
2. Consider the employee experience
Look for potential barriers related to gendered signage, privacy, accessibility, wayfinding, or uncertainty about which facilities employees may use.
3. Identify practical improvements
Determine what changes are reasonable within your workplace, recognizing that employers may lease their space or have limited control over facilities.
4. Take at least one action
Examples include updating signage, identifying or creating a gender-inclusive or single-user washroom, improving privacy features, adding clearer wayfinding, communicating that employees may use the washroom that best aligns with their gender identity, or raising facility improvements with a landlord/property manager.
5. Communicate the change
Where relevant, make employees aware of the available facilities and any changes made.

✅ Why This Commitment Is Important:
The problem we’re trying to solve:
Washrooms are a basic workplace need, but gendered facilities, unclear policies, inadequate privacy, or inappropriate signage can create barriers for transgender, non-binary and gender-diverse employees and visitors.
Privacy and accessibility improvements can also benefit many other people. The goal is not necessarily to eliminate gendered washrooms.
It is to ensure employees can access appropriate facilities safely, comfortably and with dignity.
Benefits:
Creates clearer expectations for employees and managers
Reduces uncertainty about washroom access
Supports employee dignity, privacy and belonging
Can improve accessibility and the experience of customers and visitors
Helps identify practical facility improvements before concerns arise
Demonstrates an inclusive approach without necessarily requiring significant infrastructure changes.
