2026-2027 Bow Valley Workplace Inclusion Charter
Commitment #12:
Advanced Learning and Organizational Development
Complete approved advanced learning that builds deeper inclusion skills and supports internal leadership, implementation, or champion capacity.
See below on this page for details about how to complete this commitment.
⚠️ Instructions To Complete This Commitment:
Commitment:
Part A: Training
Complete the training based on employer size and training type, ensuring training meets the commitment requirements.
a) Who needs to complete the Advanced Learning and Organizational Development training?
The intention of this commitment is to offer organizations the opportunity to develop internal ‘champions’ with deeper knowledge and skills to advance change across policies and practices within the workplace.
We encourage employers to ensure employee representation across all levels and departments of the organization. Different roles may benefit from different trainings (eg: frontline employees vs supervisors).
Employers with multiple workplaces must demonstrate how learnings will be applied across all participating workplaces.
Participation Thresholds (based on employer size):
To account for seasonality of the local workforce, Employer Size will be based on the employer's average annual number of employees throughout the year.
To meet the participation requirements, employers may select which focus areas best meet the needs of their organization. To ensure a well-rounded workforce, employers must participate in training in at least 3 of the 10 identified topics.
1 employee = Owner
2 to 9 employees = owner/manager + at least 1 additional employee
10 to 24 employees = at least 2 leaders or supervisors
25 to 99 employees = at least 5 leaders or supervisors
100+ employees = at least 5% of senior leaders

c) Learning outcomes across all topics
Advanced Learning builds the skills needed to embed inclusion into workplace practices, leadership, systems, and organizational decision-making.
Participants should be able to apply learnings to how their team or organization operations, and what is considered the 'norm'.
As a guide, trainings may be around 3-7+ hours in duration, and must meet at least 3 of the following learning outcomes:
Deeper learning and exploration of more nuances and complex topics
Systems thinking and organizational change
Leadership and implementation skills
Responding to challenging scenarios
Decision-making through an inclusion lens
Reviewing and improving workplace policies and practices
Embedding inclusive practices into operations
Part B: Applying Learnings
Employers must show how they are applying learnings by completing a form showing:
what trainings were completed, and when?
who within the organization completed the training?
how will they apply the learnings?
Employers with more than one worksite must demonstrate how learnings will be applied across all worksites.
Evidence
Evidence may include the following:
Training completion record or certificate from training provider showing training date(s), learning outcomes, and agenda/format
Participants list of names and roles
Short statement outlining one workplace change or next step (What will change in practice? Examples:
a revised workplace process, checklist, or policy;

✅ Why This Commitment Is Important:
The problem we’re trying to solve:
Leaders may not yet have the skills to make inclusion part of everyday decisions.: Without advanced learning, inclusion can remain a value statement rather than shaping hiring, supervision, scheduling, communication, and workplace policies.
Workplace systems can unintentionally create barriers: Policies, routines, and informal norms may not work equally well for immigrants, racialized employees, people with disabilities, 2SLGBTQIA+ employees, Indigenous employees, and others with different lived experiences.
Change may be uneven across teams and worksites: When learning and accountability are not shared among leaders, employees can have very different workplace experiences depending on their supervisor, department, or location.
Benefits
Build stronger inclusive leadership: Leaders gain practical tools to make fair, respectful, and informed decisions in everyday workplace situations.
Improve workplace systems and practices: Employers can identify and reduce barriers in policies, communication, recruitment, onboarding, scheduling, and staff support.
Create more consistent employee experiences: When leaders apply learning across teams and worksites, employees are more likely to experience belonging, safety, and fair access to opportunities.
