Complete approved foundational inclusion learning so employees build a shared baseline understanding of respectful, welcoming, and inclusive workplace practices. To be completed by leadership and a minimum percentage of staff based on employer size.
See below on this page for details about how to complete this commitment.
⚠️ Instructions To Complete This Commitment:
Commitment:
Part A: Training
Complete the training based on employer size and training type, ensuring training meets the commitment requirements.
a) Who needs to complete the Foundational Inclusion training?
We encourage employers to ensure employee representation across all levels and departments of the organization. Different roles may benefit from different trainings (eg: frontline employees vs supervisors).
Employers with multiple workplaces must demonstrate how learnings will be applied across all participating workplaces.
Participation Thresholds (based on employer size):
To account for seasonality of the local workforce, Employer Size will be based on the employer's average annual number of employees throughout the year.
The number of employees required to complete this commitment is based on employer size, as below:
1 employee = Owner only
2 to 9 employees = owner/manager + at least 1 additional employee
10 to 24 employees = at least 25% of employees, including 1 leader or supervisor
25 to 99 employees = at least 20% of employees, including 2 leaders or supervisors
100+ employees = at least 15% of employees, including leaders from more than one department or worksite
b) Focus Areas / Training Topics
Throughout the year, Supporting Agencies offer participating WIC employers access to training at no cost to employers. Details will be available through the WIC employer platform (via Basecamp.com), once employers sign up to the WIC.

Practical actions participants can immediately apply
As a guide only, training duration for Foundational Learning could be between 1-3+ hours. To make sure training meets requirements, please review the Learning Outcomes.
Part B: Applying Learnings
Employers must show how they are applying learnings by completing a form showing:

how will they apply the learnings?
Employers with more than one worksite must demonstrate how learnings will be applied across all worksites.

✅ Why This Commitment Is Important:
The problem we’re trying to solve:
Inclusion learning is not reaching enough people across workplaces: Training is often limited to a few interested staff, rather than including leaders, supervisors, frontline teams, and different departments or worksites.
Employees may lack the knowledge and confidence to respond inclusively: Without practical learning, bias, stigma, misunderstandings, and barriers can affect how people are hired, supported, communicated with, and included at work.
Learning does not always lead to workplace change: We need to work together to turn training into systems and everyday practices that translate to more inclusive workplaces.
Benefits
Build a more welcoming workplace: Employees and leaders gain practical skills to help all team members feel respected, included, and able to contribute.
Strengthen staff retention and wellbeing: Inclusive workplaces can improve trust, psychological safety, teamwork, and employees’ sense of belonging.
Turn learning into meaningful action. Employers apply training across their workplace through clear changes to everyday practices, policies, communication, and team culture.
